NARRATIVE DESCRIPTION OF ERUV BOUNDARIES

The map indicates the boundaries of the Eruv. It is permitted to carry only within these boundaries. Therefore, generally speaking, the boundary streets are to be considered outside the Eruv. Anyone living or walking on these streets should consult us.

The Lakefront Eruv will go from Lake Shore Drive and Irving park east to the Metra tracks which are at Ravenswood (n.b. only the south side of Irving Park is in the eruv - see Rabbi Freundel's comments regarding the edges of the eruv). At Ravenswood and Irving Park, the eruv travels south to Diversey (only east of the Metra tracks wall is in the eruv). The eruv then travels from Diversey and Ravenswood west to Diversey and Ashland (only the north side of Diversey is in the eruv). The eruv then travels from Diversey and Ashland south to Fullerton and Ashland (only the east side of Ashland is in the eruv). From Fullerton and Ashland the eruv travels east to the North Lagoon (near Fullerton and Cannon Drive - and only the north side of Fullerton is in the eruv). Important: The area south of Diversey and EAST of the Lagoon (specifically Diversy harbor and east of that) is not in the eruv. From Fullerton and North Lagoon the eruv follows the sea wall (including rocks which drop off into deep water) north to Montrose Harbor (don't carry down the rock steps leading to the water). All parkland that is north of Diversey and south of Montrose harbor is in the eruv. Montrose harbor is not in the eruv (you will see a pole near the pier just south of the harbor which is the gateway out of the eruv). For the time being, the golf course at Irving Park, which is within the fence, will be in the eruv; however, playing golf is prohibited on shabbat, and in the future the eruv will not even include the golf course.
